(Baku): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recalled former Prime Minister Hun Sen’s historic official visit to Azerbaijan in April 2014, saying it laid the foundation for strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet made the remarks at the Cambodia–Azerbaijan Business Forum, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday (Oct. 12).

The premier noted that Cambodia and Azerbaijan have since taken further steps to deepen economic ties, including agreements on trade and economic cooperation and the avoidance of double taxation.

Despite this progress, Samdech Thipadei acknowledged that bilateral economic cooperation remains at an early stage, with significant potential to expand trade, strengthen business-to-business engagement and attract new investment.

He also highlighted Azerbaijan’s strengths in energy, petrochemicals, renewable energy, agricultural technology, logistics and digital infrastructure, alongside Cambodia’s dynamic manufacturing sector, a vibrant agriculture sector, a young and adaptable workforce, expanding clean energy adoption, and favourable preferential trade access across regional markets.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed confidence that closer cooperation between the public and private sectors would help unlock the full potential of Cambodia–Azerbaijan economic relations and build a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership.
